Hi! My name’s Nicole Deese and I’ve been a storyteller since I was a free-spirited little girl who used her grandparent’s gingham ottoman as a speaking platform and whose audience consisted of a sleepy house cat and a slobbery baby brother. And while that particular method of storytelling genius has changed some, my deep affection for the heartfelt journeys of imperfect people in need of a little humor, hope and romance...has only strengthened throughout the years. For more information about my contemporary romances, you can find a list of all my books here on my website and on my author Facebook page and Instagram.

My newest release is a novella—Heartwood—which is the final love story in a novella collection featuring Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, and Amanda Dykes. The collection spans over 125 years and is titled: The Kissing Tree: Four Novellas Rooted in Timeless Love.

Here’s a bit more about Heartwood:

Abby Brookshire is both a skilled groundskeeper and a master gardener for The Kissing Tree Inn. Her unbridled passion for the land she grew up tending alongside her father rivals that of her deepest regret: cutting ties with Griffin Malone, the man who claimed her heart many years ago.

Now, as her town’s most beloved oak tree is threatened to be removed, Abby must prune the painful memories of her past and partner with the only man who has the power to save her cherished landmark… and maybe her heart, too.

Throughout the story, Abby is often found wrist-deep in potting soil, grateful for how her garden has supplied endless hours of inspiration, healing, and peace throughout the many different seasons of her life.

Author Honesty Time: I don’t garden. As in, I have never planted a single seedling in any of my 39 years on this earth. And the house plants I have owned don’t usually make it longer than a few weeks, even the “un-killable succulent” with a refundable guarantee. BUT BEFORE YOU GO JUDGING ME AND MY BLACK THUMB… hear me out!

In order to write Abby authentically, I needed to interview several trusted gardener friends and family members (as well as a free consult with Google and YouTube on all things nature-y). And do you know what happened? I WAS INSPIRED! And not just the I’ll-buy-a-subscription-to-Better-Homes-And-Garden kind of inspired. The already-tractored-a-spot-in-the-yard-for-garden-beds kind of inspired. Sure, this new desire to grow my own veggies and find beauty and purpose at home just might have something to do with this crazy year we’ve all been living in, but hey, come next summer, I’m going to have plenty of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, radishes, and herbs-a-plenty to share with all our neighbors!

So here’s hoping life imitates art and this black thumb turns green by 2021!
